Among these, Virgin Mary in particular is a standout. Anyway, it's too bad nobody (even Joan) makes music like this anymore.
I frequently played it outside of the Christmas season, and always found it evocative of not only the spiritual element of Christmas, but something else as well that I cannot quite describe. I bought this album on vinyl in my teens, and it immediately became one of my favorites.
I don't know. Tradition, emotion.
Some have called it melancholy; there's a trace of that as well. Peter Schickele's arrangements of course are a critical component.The remaster is great, and the bonus tracks are a very welcome addition.
All in all, highly recommended.
I have loved this album for 30 or 40 years (). and so glad to have it remastered and as a CD. Joan Baez rules.
Beautiful re-mastering of her original record. She was youngand her voice like a bell.
It was Christmas, and I had an itch to hear this album. The sound is crystal clear, and Joan's voice is even more perfect than I remember. I considered burning a CD off the old LP. I'm glad I didn't. This CD will take you back, and take you higher than ever. It's a treasure.
